Bally Fox Farm is a cooperative striving for affordable housing, land access, and community building in Midcoast Maine. Located in Waldoboro, Bally Fox Farm has been in the making since 2018, and was officially incorporated with the state of Maine in 2026 as an Affordable Housing Corporation.
Affordable housing: Rising housing costs and poverty levels have created a climate where people are struggling to afford rent, let alone a mortgage. Bally Fox Farm offers its members the opportunity to own a share of a 63-acre property without the financial brick wall that is today’s housing market. By paying a one-time fee, anyone can become a member, and through reasonable monthly carry charges they will have access to their choice of a room in the refinished 1832 farmhouse; space to keep their tiny or mobile home; or Cooperative-backed loans to build something permanent.
Land access: So many people would love to have their own herb garden, or a place to host the annual family gathering, or room to keep chickens they’ve always wanted; but land access is limited for these ventures. Bally Fox Farm offers land access to those who otherwise would be stuck on a small lot or in an apartment without the space they need to grow. A monthly subscription covers the cost of general maintenance and upkeep for the property, and guarantees space for gardening, events, camping, animal husbandry, and more.
Community building: When times are tough, we at Bally Fox Farm believe that working together and building a robust community is the only way forward. Bally Fox Farm hosts events every season that help people connect with new friends, learn new skills, and feel a sense of true belonging. Events range from work parties where you can come and help the farm while meeting good people, eating delicious food, and sharing technical skill, to harvest festivals, to courses with agriculture experts.
